Maria came to me at Style it Salon from a referral from another client. She had also seen my makeovers in The Bluffton Sun and the added reinforcement from my client, Deb, had been what she needed to finally call me. The thing that makes me the craziest is with all of the licensed cosmetologists here, I still hear constantly that someone was unable to find a stylist to do either what they want and/or that they “can’t find someone to do their hair.”
I’m seeing people becoming scared to get their hair done! So, so sad! Believe me, I’m far from perfect and I am learning new things every day, but something is wrong if I hear that constantly.
Maria was one of these many people. She would rather walk around with three inches of gray and no style than take another chance and spend more money for something she winds up unhappy with. It makes me crazy!!
The before photo is my proof. She came to me with exactly what I just explained.
Her hair had several inches of gray new growth, the rest of her length was orange, then yucky brown.
After chatting with her, I knew that I needed to do something to give her hair some life without her being a slave to it. She didn’t need anything radical, just flattering and low maintenance. I colored her roots a neutral brown to take the brassiness out. The undertones of brassy were covered. That gave her just enough warmth without being red. I then added some lighter pieces just on the top. These will help camouflage the line of gray as her hair begins to grow; very easy, low maintenance and not a lot of money.
As for the haircut, the before picture shows how her hair dragged her face down. It had no width or triangle. It was just the opposite of flattering! It needed the fullness to be at her ears, not her jaw.
I redirected the fullness by giving her a slight bottom layer. That brought the fullness up to draw attention to her eyes. Then bangs; so easy and such a change by softening her forehead. I think she looks like a different person. We were both so happy with the result, the cheapest facelift ever!
