Meet Laura Budak.
Laura has been my client and friend for several years. I especially loved this makeover because Laura was going through a job and life change and wanted to follow through with a change to her look. Her parameters were minimal and I love that! Laura has an artsy side to her personality and this gave me license to be creative and give edge to her look. She also loves red!
The “Old Laura” was a bit more conservative and had a more conventional office position, so we used to stay in the highlighted blonde category. That was absolutely fine, but this new Laura is outstanding. I decided to use the truer red tones rather than the more cosmetic reds. This would accommodate her being in and administrative/management position. I put in chunks of blonde and a deep auburn. The dimension these tones gave her hair was amazing. She has fine, medium-weight hair and the different tones made her hair look thicker and more dense. It was artsy, edgy but still not over the top.
For the cut, I needed a look that softened her jawline instead of drawing attention to it, which is not flattering on anyone over the age of twenty. Her hair gets stringy looking when it gets long. I wanted to give her a light bang to add interest to the cut and bring attention to the eyes and cheekbones. I tell my clients that with the right cut and color, you can lose ten pounds and ten years instantly. Who doesn’t want that?
The ability to publicize my work helps make readers away that a stylist’s education, experience and knowledge are crucial when deciding what to do with your hair. I always ask that clients show me some pictures of hairstyles they like. Either visual or verbal, communication is key. Like in marriage, it can make or break he relationship between you and your stylist. Spend the time communicating with the stylist. Be sure he or she hears you. We can’t read minds, so explain and tell us what you want. It doesn’t hurt my feelings when you tell me what you want, but it kills me when you don’t. Great service and making you feel like a rock star are so worth it.
